The NBA’s competition committee are considering a rule change that would hurt players such as Luka Doncic, James Harden or Trae Young, who win so many games by leaning back and to the side in order to initiate contact.
The NBA Committee could organise a vote this summer that would bring in some adjustments to foul rules and regulations ahead of the summer league in Las Vegas this August. The officials would then start restricting any unnatural motions on jump shots.
This is according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, who added that the NBA have shared a video compilation of examples to the NBA teams.
The competition committee and the NBA – comprising a select group of owners, general managers, coaches, players and referees – largely believe there’s a framework of rules and regulations that allows offensive players too much free time to initiate contact in what are deemed unnatural and awkward ways,” Wojnarowski explained.
The NBA could, then, restrict such initiation of contact for the 2021/22 season and this would likely reduce the number of fouls called in games.
